Registration to Practice
AHPRA (The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) is the governing national body covering the registration of Nurses in NSW. To work in NSW or apply for employment, all practitioners must be registered with AHPRA. Contact us at Allied Health Employment to discuss an application to AHPRA
Overseas trained Nurses with the exception of New Zealand graduates will need to undertake a skills assessment and in most cases an examination or period of supervised practise in order to obtain registration. We can advise you of the requirements and where to apply.
For New Zealand trained and registered Nurses, there is a mutual recognition process in place with reciprocal registration rights in place. Contact us to discuss this process.
Most health boards and hospitals require nurses to provide a list of compliance documents prior to being accpeted into positions, in most cases, these documents must be provided prior to even being able to make an application for employment. These can include

1. Working Holiday Visa -
The Working Holiday Program provides opportunities for people between 18 and 30 to holiday in New South Wales and to supplement their travel funds through incidental employment.
The visa allows a stay of up to 12 months from the date of first entry to New South Wales, regardless of whether or not you spend the whole time in New South Wales.
You are allowed to do any kind of work of a temporary or casual nature, but work for more than three months with any one employer is not permitted.
2. Sponsored Employee Visa -
Employers can sponsor overseas applicants into New South Wales for a period of up to four years if they can't fill a vacancy from the local work force. Employees will be under contract and can only work for their sponsoring employer - the visa is provided by the employer and links the employee to the job directly.
